How to Play

Survive the Swarm is a Roblox survivor-like from GeekOut Studio: you move, weapons fire on their own, cube insects chase, and a finished run pays more if you lasted. This page is the core loop — not the first-join checklist on Getting Started, and not the emergency kiting notes on How to Survive. If you understand this loop, every other guide on the wiki is a specialization.

The experience is free. Servers hold up to 60 players. It released on 3 October 2025 and was last listed as updated on 20 August 2026. Official copy promises heroes from other worlds, an upgrade every level, and better rewards the longer a run lasts. Your job in a session is simple to say and easy to fumble: stay in motion, let the loadout work, convert floor crystals into levels, and leave the 49-cost shop closed until the arena actually requires it.

Move, and let weapons auto-attack

You do not win by standing still and “aiming.” The starter sword, boomerangs, Machine Gun, and any other tool that appears in the bottom-left bar auto-attack while you move. Positioning is the skill. Studio direction is keep distance from attacking insects and circle the pack rather than running through it. If you cut the diameter of the swarm, you eat every bite at once. If you ride the rim, auto-attacks clip the edge while you scoop crystals.

Dash is the panic valve, not the movement mode. Shift or Space on PC spends a cooldown pip. Use it to break a surround or skip a red cube, then return to walking a circle. Input details and the E ATTACK! prompt seen in some views live on controls. Mobile uses a tap UI for the same loop.

Enemies are cube insects: swarms of small blue bugs and larger red bugs. Blues fill space. Reds punish a lazy line. Treat mixed packs as one organism. The HUD’s WAVE counter and countdown tell you when the next pressure spike arrives; Wave 1 and Wave 22 use the same widget, so learn it early.

Purple crystals, XP, and the level-up pick

Purple crystal pickups on the arena floor feed the LVL / XP bar. A Wave 22 clip still showed only LVL 7, which is the point: wave number is not character level. If you kite so wide that crystals die behind you, you delay the upgrade that would have made the next ring survivable.

Every time the bar fills, you pick an upgrade. That pick is the run’s build. It is not the same thing as a weapon’s own level number on the loadout, and it is not the 49-cost powerup shop. Split those three systems in your head, then read upgrades when you want the distinctions with examples. During the loop itself: pause, read the panel, take one option that helps you keep circling, and move. Standing in the menu while insects close is how Wave 6 feels like Wave 20.

Named weapons you may add over a run include boomerangs (yellow and red returning projectiles on official screenshots) and Machine Gun (community footage, including a Trenchline clear). Players also mention a Mage staff as possibly strong. Stack several at once — the HUD is built for it. How they behave together is on weapons and the weapon tier list.

Powerups, currency, and the multiplayer arena

Top-right currency funds the right-side shop. Two powerups are confirmed in studio HUD shots: Team Invincibility for 30 seconds at cost 49, and Stun All Enemies for 30 seconds at cost 49. They are panic buttons for a closed circle, not a per-wave tax. Buying both because the number 49 looks small is how you arrive at a difficulty round with an empty wallet. Timing belongs on How to Survive.

The arena is a grassy walled courtyard with stone pillars. Pillars are kite posts. One named map, Trenchline, showed a community clear to wave 76 with Machine Gun level 5 — routing notes sit on maps. Other players in a 60-cap server share the same insects and the same floor gems. Team Invincibility is named for a reason; a stun or invuln can cover a group, but a teammate who runs through the pack still pulls the swarm onto your line. Play next to people, not through them.

Heroes change the loop’s risk. Mage trades HP for damage; the creator has said using her drops HP faster even though she fights strong. Unlock her after the starter sword kit makes sense, then compare best heroes and builds. A turret was announced in January 2026; until it is in your HUD, do not plan the loop around it.

A session from lobby to rewards

Join, move, auto-attack, vacuum crystals, pick levels, dash on cooldown, and cash out when the swarm is about to win — not after it already has. Rewards scale with duration, so a longer clean run beats a greedy death at the shop. Optional Robux can double some end-of-run payouts; that is a multiplier on a run you already finished, not a substitute for circling. Difficulty rounds exist. Public clips have reached wave 92 with several revives. Those clips still use the same loop you practice on Wave 1.

Before the next session, glance at codes, the tier list, new weapons, and the loadout checklist. Official Discord (https://discord.gg/8rVyEvcbyJ), the GeekOut Studio group, and Twitter @GeekOutStudio are collected on wiki links. Then go back into the courtyard and walk a circle the insects cannot close.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Survive the Swarm on Roblox.

What is the core loop in Survive the Swarm?

Move while weapons auto-attack, collect purple crystals for XP, pick an upgrade every level, dash on cooldown, and only then spend 49 on Team Invincibility or Stun All Enemies. See How to Survive for panic timing.

Do I have to click to attack?

No. Weapons auto-attack while you move. Some footage shows an E ATTACK! prompt; treat that as extra, not the main fire mode. Input notes are on controls.

How do I level up?

Walk over purple crystals on the floor to fill the LVL / XP bar, then pick an upgrade. Weapon levels on the bottom-left loadout are a separate stack. Both are covered in upgrades.

Can I play with friends?

Yes. Servers hold up to 60 players. Team Invincibility can cover a group, but you still need to circle the pack. Do not use teammates as a wall.

What makes a run pay more?

Official copy says better rewards the longer a run lasts. Optional Robux can double some end-of-run rewards. Lasting is still a kiting problem, not a shop problem.

Where should I go after learning the loop?

Read weapons, maps, and Getting Started if the HUD is still fuzzy. Then check codes and wiki links.
