Survive the Swarm Weapon Tier List
Evidenced ranks only — boomerangs, Machine Gun, starter sword, and Mage staff.
This is the weapons ranking for Survive the Swarm on Roblox, written as a September 2026 community snapshot. It is not an official GeekOut Studio ladder. We rank only tools we can point at: official screenshots, wave 22 multi-weapon footage, and public runs. We do not invent fireball, artillery flare, rarity tables, or numeric DPS. If a gun is not on this page, assume the roster is still expanding through new weapons and in-run level-ups — not that we forgot a secret S-tier.
Survive the Swarm is a survivor-like. Weapons auto-attack while you kite cube insects. You can hold several weapons at once, and each one shows its own level on a bottom-left bar (visible in official footage at wave 22). A letter grade is about that whole picture: clear speed, kite safety, sustain, and whether a new player can even equip the thing. Pair this list with the weapons guide for how tools behave, and with the Tier List Hub for how grades were chosen.
High tier — group clear and long holds
Boomerangs — high / S for clearing. Official screenshots show returning yellow and red projectiles. That pattern is built for packs: the shot leaves, cuts a line, and comes back through the same insects. Blue swarm bodies die to coverage more than to a single melee poke. Larger red bugs still need you to keep moving, but boomerangs give you a kill zone you can kite through instead of standing in bite range. Treat them as the default “delete the ring” pick when they appear on the bar.
Machine Gun — high / S for long runs. Community evidence, not a studio DPS sheet: Step Phương used Machine Gun level 5 to wave 76 on Trenchline. That is a holdout signal. Sustained auto-fire rewards players who already circle instead of sprinting through the pack. The gun does not replace dash (Shift or Space) or purple XP pickup. It does mean that, among evidenced tools, Machine Gun is the one with a public deep-wave clip attached. If you are planning a long Trenchline session, read the maps guide and tick the loadout checklist before you assume any other gun matches that clip.
High tier here means “we can see it working in the way the game is actually played.” It does not mean every run should force both tools. Multi-weapon loadouts exist; boomerangs plus Machine Gun is a community template on builds, not a rule GeekOut printed.
Low-mid — starter sword as a carry
Starter sword — low-mid as a late carry, fine early. The sword is visible in screenshots and the “E ATTACK!” art. It is melee. Early waves, when the blue swarm is still thin and you have about 100 HP, a sword teaches spacing: dash, circle, do not stand in the pile. Once ranged options exist, using the sword as your carry is a downgrade. You have to walk into bite range while boomerangs and Machine Gun delete from a safer line. Keep it on the bar if the run gave it to you; do not pick sword levels over projectile or gun levels once those exist. New players should still start here — see how to survive — because unlock cost is zero and the lesson is the whole game.
Situational — Mage staff, community-reported
Mage staff — community-reported, not a guaranteed S. Players have asked whether the staff is better. We have not independently tested it into the same wave 76 range as Machine Gun. Mark it as hearsay with a body attached: Mage as a hero is high damage and high risk (HP drops faster). A staff that rides with that kit can look excellent in a clean kite and miserable if you eat the swarm. Do not copy a lobby claim onto this list as S. Read Mage for the HP trade, then decide in-run whether staff levels beat another Machine Gun or boomerang level on the bottom-left bar.
A blue-coat caster in wave 22 footage may be Mage-like. That screenshot is not a studio label. We do not use it as proof that the staff is S, only as a reminder that caster kits exist in the same multi-weapon HUD as everyone else.
What we refuse to rank
No invented names. No fake rarity rows. No “this does 120 DPS.” The catalogue grows with updates and with the level-up panel. If GeekOut ships a new auto-attack, it starts unranked until there is footage or a public run. Check new weapons and the upgrades ranking when extra projectiles or weapon levels would change how an existing tool feels.
Shop TEAM INVINCIBILITY and STUN ALL ENEMIES (30 seconds, 49 currency) are not weapons. They are HUD panic buttons. They can save a Machine Gun holdout when the red bugs close in; they cannot make a melee-only bar into a high-tier loadout. Rank those on the upgrades page.
How to apply the list on Trenchline
Trenchline is the map attached to the wave 76 clip. Routing still matters: circle, collect purple XP, dash out of the thick blue ring. A high-tier gun does not auto-win a 60-player server if you stand still. Use how to survive for the movement loop, maps for layout, and codes only if you need extra currency for shop panic — not as a substitute for picking boomerangs or Machine Gun when the level-up panel offers them.
If a patch shuffles weapon feel, this page should be rewritten, not screenshotted as forever. Until then, the honest board is short: boomerangs for groups, Machine Gun for long holds, sword for learning, Mage staff unproven. That shortness is the point of a September 2026 snapshot.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for Survive the Swarm on Roblox.
Is Machine Gun officially the best weapon?
No. A public Trenchline run used Machine Gun level 5 to wave 76. That is community evidence, not a GeekOut ranking. Compare habits on the weapons guide.
Why are boomerangs high tier with no wave 76 clip?
Official screenshots show returning yellow and red projectiles that cover groups. Clear speed versus the blue swarm is the criterion, not a single clip. See the Tier List Hub for how grades are chosen.
Should I drop the starter sword as soon as I can?
Keep it early; stop investing in it as a carry once ranged tools exist. Movement still matters more — how to survive covers dash and kite.
Is Mage staff S tier?
Not on this list. It is community-reported and tied to a high-risk body. Read Mage and treat staff levels as a situational pick, not a guaranteed S.
Will more weapons be added to this ranking?
Yes, after evidence. The roster expands with updates and in-run level-ups. Follow new weapons instead of assuming a finished catalogue.
Does this list tell me which hero to play?
No. Use the heroes ranking and best heroes. Weapons auto-attack on every kit; the body changes HP risk.
