Survive the Swarm Best Heroes

A buy order for evidenced kits — starter first, Mage when you can pay the HP tax.

Best Heroes

“Best heroes” in Survive the Swarm does not mean a twelve-row Roblox popularity chart. GeekOut Studio’s official line is that you play as heroes from other worlds. Public comments name Mage. Screenshots show a starter sword fighter. This page is a September 2026 community snapshot of who to play first, who to buy later, and who we refuse to rank because they have no public name. For letter grades, use the heroes ranking. For the HP trade, use Mage. For guns, use the weapons ranking.

The game launched free on 3 October 2025. Servers hold up to 60. Weapons auto-attack while you kite cube insects. You pick an upgrade every level and can hold several weapons at once (bottom-left per-weapon levels in wave 22 footage). The “best” body is the one that matches that loop and your current kite skill. A high-damage kit is not best if you still run through the blue swarm.

First hours — starter sword fighter

Play the starter. It is visible, free, and honest. Melee range is a teaching tool: you feel every mistake at about 100 HP on wave 1. Dash on Shift or Space. Circle. Scoop purple XP crystals. Let auto-attacks do the hitting while you do the moving. The how to survive page is the real “best hero” guide for this window, because no named kit will save a player who stands still.

The sword is low-mid as a carry once boomerangs or Machine Gun exist. That is a weapons problem, not a reason to abandon the body on day one. Keep the starter until you can hold a line on Trenchline without panic-buying STUN ALL ENEMIES every wave. Shop TEAM INVINCIBILITY (30 seconds, 49 currency) is a save, not a personality.

If you need extra currency for later unlocks, check the codes hub. Do not treat codes as a skip for learning the starter. Survive the Swarm is still a survivor-like; the first hero you master is the one that teaches the genre.

First named unlock — Mage, with conditions

Mage is the best named unlock after the starter, not instead of it. Community and creator notes: fights strong, HP drops faster. That is the entire documented kit identity. It is the right buy when your deaths are “I got greedy in a pack I could have circled,” not “I do not know how dash works.”

Mage is the wrong buy when you want a tank. Nothing in public notes says Mage has more health. The opposite is the claim. Pair the body with extra projectiles and weapon levels, and take raw HP earlier than you would on the sword fighter — that upgrade order is on the upgrades ranking. Staff levels stay community-reported; do not assume they beat Machine Gun level 5 on a Trenchline hold to wave 76.

A blue-coat caster in wave 22 footage may be Mage-like. We do not use that shot as a “this is the best skin, therefore Mage is best.” Best is a play pattern, not a coat color.

Unnamed kits — not on the best list

There is no third name to recommend. “Heroes from other worlds” will expand. Until a patch or studio post labels a kit, it cannot be “best.” Lobby rumors do not count. When a new hero is named, the honest process is: add it to the Heroes Hub, leave it unranked for a week of public runs, then place it on the heroes ranking. Skipping that process is how fake twelve-hero lists get written.

If you already spent currency and the kit has no wiki name, play it like the starter: kite first, feed the best evidenced gun on the bar, use shop panic only when the ring is already wrong. The loadout checklist still applies. The new weapons notes still matter more than a mystery body.

Best for a long Trenchline run

The public deep-wave signal is a Machine Gun holdout, not a hero DPS test. Best body for copying that clip is whichever kit lets you keep circling while the gun sits at a high level. That can be the starter. It can be Mage if you budget HP and TEAM INVINCIBILITY. It cannot be “whichever skin looks rare.”

Boomerangs remain the group-clear partner on community builds. Extra projectiles beat extra sword levels. Purple XP left on the grass delays both. Map routing on maps will change results more than swapping two evidenced heroes.

A practical buy order

  1. Starter sword fighter until kite is automatic.
  2. Weapon quality: boomerangs, Machine Gun, then other evidenced tools — see the weapons guide.
  3. Mage if you want the damage-for-HP trade and can already last without mashing stun.
  4. Stop. Do not invent a fifth row.

Refresh this order after a named-hero patch. Until then, “best” in Survive the Swarm is boring on purpose: learn on the sword, buy Mage only with eyes open, refuse fake names. That is the September 2026 answer, and it will stay the answer until GeekOut prints a new one.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Survive the Swarm on Roblox.

Who is the best starter hero in Survive the Swarm?

The starter sword fighter. It is free and teaches kite. Do not buy Mage until dash and circling are automatic — how to survive.

Is Mage the best hero overall?

Mage is the best evidenced named unlock if you can pay the HP tax. It is not a tank. Read Mage and the heroes ranking.

Why is there no top-ten hero list?

Official copy only promises heroes from other worlds. Public comments name Mage. This wiki will not invent names. Track new labels on the Heroes Hub.

What should I unlock before any hero?

Movement and weapons. Boomerangs and Machine Gun decide long runs more than a body swap. See the weapons ranking and builds.

Does Trenchline change who is best?

The wave 76 clip is a Machine Gun holdout. Pick the body that lets you kite that gun. Layout notes live on maps.

Should I spend codes currency on Mage immediately?

Only after you can last without panic-buying stun. Redeem on the codes hub, then follow the buy order above.
