Mage in Survive the Swarm

High damage, high risk — community notes say the kit fights strong and HP drops faster.

Mage

Mage is the only publicly named hero we can put on a Survive the Swarm page without inventing a roster. Official Roblox copy from GeekOut Studio says you play as heroes from other worlds. Community and creator comments on Mage are narrower and consistent: the kit fights strong, and HP drops faster than on the starter sword fighter. This article treats that trade as the whole identity. It is a September 2026 community snapshot, not a studio kit bible, and it will shift after patches.

If you arrived here from a screenshot of a blue-coat caster at wave 22, pause. That figure may be Mage-like. We do not claim the unlabeled footage is Mage. Official wave 22 video is useful for the HUD — several weapons at once, per-weapon levels on a bottom-left bar — not for a character ID. Until GeekOut slaps a name on that coat, write “caster-like,” not “confirmed Mage skin.”

What the kit actually does

Weapons still auto-attack. Mage does not replace the weapons guide. You can still stack boomerangs, Machine Gun, and whatever else the run offers. The body changes the budget. Wave 1 still starts around 100 HP for the early game; Mage spends that budget faster while hitting harder. That is high damage, high risk. It is not a hidden tank, and it is not an excuse to stand in the blue cube swarm.

Mage staff as a weapon is community-reported, not independently tested into the same range as the Trenchline wave 76 Machine Gun clip. Players have asked if the staff is better. This wiki will not answer “yes, S tier” without a public run. Rank the staff as situational on the weapons ranking. Rank the body as a glass cannon on the heroes ranking. Those are different sentences.

Movement is unchanged: dash on Shift or Space, circle, do not sprint through insects. Purple XP crystals still buy level-ups. Because HP is the weak axis, you should take raw HP earlier than a sword player — see the upgrades ranking. Extra projectiles and weapon levels still sit above HP for clear speed; you just cannot skip every health pick.

When Mage is worth unlocking

Unlock Mage after the starter sword fighter feels automatic. The best heroes buy order is starter first on purpose. If your deaths are spacing deaths, Mage makes them faster. If your deaths are “the pack closed and I had no ranged tool,” fix the bar with boomerangs or Machine Gun before you pay for a named kit.

Mage is worth it when you already last into dense waves and want more delete per second, and you are willing to budget shop TEAM INVINCIBILITY. That HUD button lasts 30 seconds and costs 49 currency. It is not a Mage-only skill. It is a crutch that Mage will want more often because the health bar is already falling. STUN ALL ENEMIES is the same price and duration; use it to reopen a kite on Trenchline, not as a substitute for dash.

Codes that add currency — codes hub — can speed the unlock. They cannot buy kite skill. Survive the Swarm is free on Roblox; spending run rewards on Mage before you can circle is the expensive way to learn the same lesson the starter teaches for free.

Loadouts that do not fight the kit

Community templates, not certified loadouts, live on builds. For Mage they look like this:

  • Boomerang clear: extra projectiles, boomerang levels, HP earlier than usual. You delete the blue ring from a line instead of from melee.
  • Machine Gun holdout: copy the public Trenchline idea (Machine Gun level 5 to wave 76) while accepting that Mage has less HP room for errors than the sword fighter who posted similar habits.
  • Mixed kite: one clear tool, one holdout tool, shop panic saved for the closed circle. Tick the loadout checklist so you do not enter a long run with staff-only hope.

Do not build “staff plus sword and nothing that returns.” Melee plus a high-risk body is two weaknesses stacked. If the level-up panel offers a ranged level versus a staff level and you have not tested staff into deep waves, the evidenced pick is still the gun or the boomerang.

What this page will not claim

No numeric DPS. No invented sister heroes. No “Mage beats Machine Gun.” No statement that the wave 22 blue coat is definitely Mage. No promise that TEAM INVINCIBILITY makes the kit safe. The honest summary is one sentence you can take into a 60-player server: Mage hits hard, dies faster, and rewards the same kite that how to survive already teaches.

When GeekOut publishes a named kit patch, update this article from studio copy, then refresh the Heroes Hub. Until then, treat Mage as the one named risk you can actually discuss — and treat every other silhouette as unnamed.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Survive the Swarm on Roblox.

Is Mage the best hero in Survive the Swarm?

Mage is high damage and high risk, not a default best. HP drops faster. Compare buy order on best heroes and grades on the heroes ranking.

Is the blue-coat caster in wave 22 footage Mage?

It may be Mage-like. This page does not treat an unlabeled screenshot as a studio ID. Use that footage for the multi-weapon HUD, not for a skin claim.

Is Mage staff better than Machine Gun?

Unknown. Staff is community-reported. Machine Gun has a public Trenchline run to wave 76 at level 5. See the weapons ranking.

Should Mage players buy TEAM INVINCIBILITY every wave?

No. TEAM INVINCIBILITY costs 49 currency for 30 seconds. Budget it for a closed circle. Upgrade types are ranked on the upgrades list.

Do I still need to kite on Mage?

Yes. Dash on Shift or Space and circle the pack. The kit does not replace how to survive.

What should I read after this page?

Open community builds for templates, then the loadout checklist before a long Trenchline session.
