Survive the Swarm Upgrades

Three different systems: level-up picks, weapon levels on the loadout, and the 49-cost powerup shop.

Upgrades

Survive the Swarm looks like one upgrade screen and is actually three progress layers fighting for your attention. In-run level-up picks appear when the XP bar fills. Weapon levels tick on the bottom-left loadout independently of that panel. Powerups sit in a shop that charges 49 currency for 30 seconds of Team Invincibility or Stun All Enemies. Mixing those three up is how players tap a shop panic when they needed a level, or chase a weapon pip while crystals rot on the grass.

This page keeps the layers separate, then tells you how they feed the kite. It does not invent stat numbers, rarity tables, or unnamed passives. For the loop that generates XP, read How to Play. For when a 49-cost button is actually worth it, read How to Survive.

In-run level-up picks

Official copy is clear: you pick an upgrade every level. Purple crystal pickups on the arena floor fill the LVL / XP bar. A Wave 22 HUD still showed LVL 7, so do not expect the panel to keep pace with the WAVE timer. Vacuum crystals on your oval. If you kite so wide the gems die behind you, you skip the pick that would have opened space on the next ring.

When the panel opens, you are building the run, not your account. Prefer picks that keep auto-attacks covering the rim while you walk — extra projectiles, attack speed, area, or sustain if the game offers them — over a greedy option you cannot evaluate mid-surround. We will not fabricate a ranked list of every card. Use the upgrades tier list for community ranking language, and use this page for the habit: read, tap once, move. Standing in the menu is a surround you scheduled yourself.

Level-up picks stack with whatever is already firing. They are the reason a starter sword kit still grows before Machine Gun or boomerangs appear. They are also why Mage feels spiky: her kit already trades HP for damage, so a greed pick plus a bad dash deletes the bar the creator warned about. Compare later account buys on best heroes and builds after the in-run panel is muscle memory.

Weapon levels on the loadout bar

Bottom-left HUD: several weapons at once, each with a level number. That is a Vampire Survivors-style loadout, not a second copy of the level-up panel. A community Trenchline clip showed Machine Gun level 5 at wave 76. The number is telling you that a tool grew during the run. It is not the same integer as your character LVL, and it is not something you buy for 49 currency.

Stacking weapons is intended. Official screenshots show boomerangs as yellow and red returning projectiles alongside other fire. The starter sword can remain on the bar while a gun or staff joins it. Players mention a Mage staff as possibly strong. How those tools behave — and which ones this wiki will even name — lives on weapons and the weapon tier list. The upgrade lesson is smaller: glance at those level pips on a straight walking stretch, not while red cubes occupy your dash line.

If a weapon is lagging, the fix is usually more crystals and more time alive, not a shop purchase. Powerups do not level the Machine Gun. They buy a 30-second window. Keep those jobs apart.

Powerup shop versus permanent progress

Top-right currency funds the right-side shop. Confirmed stock: Team Invincibility (30s, 49) and Stun All Enemies (30s, 49). These are run-local panic tools. They do not permanently raise HP (Wave 1 still starts 100/100; later footage 116/120 is a different layer). They do not unlock heroes from other worlds. They do not replace the January 2026 turret announcement or anything on new weapons.

Permanent-feeling progress sits elsewhere: lasting longer for better end-of-run rewards, optional Robux that can double some of those rewards, hero unlocks such as Mage, and whatever account systems GeekOut Studio ships next. This wiki will not invent a talent tree. If a code speeds a currency pile, redeem it from the codes hub in a menu, not during a level-up panel. Track studio drops on the updates hub so you do not mistake a patch note for an in-run card.

Spend 49 when the pack is closing and dash is the wrong shape — stun to freeze a path, invincibility when you are already overlapping insects, especially in a group toward the 60-player cap. Do not spend 49 because the shop is the only number you understand. A level-up pick plus a cleaner oval prevents more deaths than a vanity stun on Wave 6.

Putting the three layers on one oval

Walk. Auto-attack. Pick up crystals. Take the level-up. Let weapon levels rise in the corner. Ignore the shop until How to Survive would tell you the ring is real. That order is the upgrade guide. Maps such as Trenchline change how long you can hold the order — pillars help, corridors do not; see maps. Controls for the dash pip that protects the order are on controls.

Before a long session, run the loadout checklist and skim wiki links for Discord and the GeekOut Studio group. Difficulty rounds and a public wave 92 clip with several revives still use these three layers. Nobody in that footage is pausing to invent stats. They are converting crystals into picks, weapons into stacked fire, and 49 into a window — in that priority.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Survive the Swarm on Roblox.

What is the difference between a level-up and a weapon level?

A level-up is the upgrade panel when your LVL / XP bar fills from purple crystals. A weapon level is the number on each icon in the bottom-left loadout. They are separate. See weapons for stacked tools.

What do the 49-cost powerups upgrade?

They do not upgrade your build. Team Invincibility and Stun All Enemies each last 30 seconds. They are panic windows. Timing is on How to Survive.

How do I level up faster?

Walk over purple crystals on your kite oval instead of running so wide they despawn behind you. Wave 22 footage still showed LVL 7, so vacuuming matters more than the WAVE number.

Is Mage an upgrade I pick mid-run?

Mage is a hero kit that trades HP for damage, not a level-up card. Read Mage and best heroes before you buy her.

Do Robux upgrade my weapons?

Optional Robux can double some end-of-run rewards. That is a payout multiplier, not a mid-run weapon level. The experience remains free to play.

Where should I look for new upgrade systems?

Studio notes and weapon drops land on new weapons and wiki links. Do not invent extra cards until a HUD shot shows them.
